I wanted to write to first of all say thank you-from the bottom of my heart-for the work you do, Emily. You truly have changed my life. And secondly, to share my story with anyone who may read this. If you are considering buying prosthetics from EBL sculpture and want to know if it’s worth it...I’m here to let you know the answer is a resounding YES! Emily’s prosthetic toes have changed my life and made me feel whole again!
I am a physician who unfortunately had a sepsis episode that left me with all 10 toes non-viable (they didn’t get any blood flow and basically died). They had to be removed. The surgeon performed bilateral transmetatarsal amputations and I was left with half my feet. I am fortunate to be alive and to be otherwise healthy. And I am grateful each and every day for that gift.
However, whenever you lose a part of your body, you feel deformed. You know it doesn’t look “normal” and you want so badly to feel and look normal again. And you know you never will.
I inquired with my orthotist about the possibility of getting artificial feet made. He told me about a company that makes artificial feet. However, they cost over $5,000 per foot. And they didn’t look or feel real or comfortable.
And then, 2 years after my amputations, I came across Emily’s company, EBL Sculpture prosthetics, during an internet search. Her work looked beautiful. And the ability to choose from so many skin tones was really key to looking natural. The partial toes looked like they would be comfortable to wear. I was cautiously excited. I wrote to Emily and her response was so kind and empathetic. It seemed like she not only loved what she did and took pride in her work, but she also genuinely loved helping people feel “whole” again.
So I took the leap and purchased bilateral toes from EBL. And I am writing today to say that I couldn’t be happier. It’s the most treasured purchase I’ve ever made! The process was easy. The artistic work is second to none. And the comfort and ease of wearing them is wonderful! I couldn’t be happier. I’m actually considering buying a second pair! But most importantly, these toes give me the gift of feeling normal again. And honestly, that’s a gift I value more than anything else. I am so thankful for Emily and the important work she does. As a physician, I know how important it is to feel like you are making a difference in people’s lives. And Emily undeniably does that with every prosthetic she makes. She is a true artist and healer. Thank you Emily! I will forever be grateful for you and your work!
